  1. Find Answers to the following questions:
Q:1 When does the Idul-Fitr come about?
Ans:

Idul-Fitr :

Ramadan may be of twentynine or thirty days. In the Islamic calendar no month has thirtyone days. The end of Ramadan is marked by Idul- Fitr.

It is a period of joy and celebration. Idul-Fitr means the Festival of Breaking the Fasts.

Q:4 Where is the Salatul-Id usually held? Why?
Ans:

Salatul-Id should be usually held in open so that all the Muslims may pray at a time

D:

Q:1 Why do the festive days of Idul-Fitr and Idul-Ad’ha pass through all the seasons?
Ans: Q5
Q:2 What do most people do on sighting the crescent of the month of Shawwal?
Ans:

On catching sight of the moon, children get excited. In some Muslim countries, gun-shots announce the end of Ramadan.

Most people keep awake and spend the night in prayer and preparation to welcome the day of rejoicings.

Q:6 How should one prepare oneself for Salatul-Id; in the tradition of the Prophet Muhammadﷺ
Ans:

Preparation for Salatul-Id in the tradition of the Holy Prophet:

The preparation for Salatul-Id is similar to the preparation for Salatul-
Jumu’ah. However, the following things should be carried out, following the example of our Prophet Muhammadﷺ

1.   To take a bath,

2.   To clean the teeth with Miswak.

3.   To put on one’s best clothes, use perfumes, and to do everything possible to look smart and neat.

4.    To eat something sweet before starting for the Idul-Fitr prayer, and to eat nothing before going for Idul-Ad’ha service. The Messenger of Allah never started for the prayer on the day of Idul-Fitr unless he had eaten some dates in an odd number. Whereas, on Idul-Ad’ha, the Prophetﷺ would eat only after his return from al-Musalla. He usually took the meat of a sacrificed animal.

5.    To approach al-Musalla through one way and return through the other, as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ

6.   To pronounce the Takbir on the way in an undertone.

Q:9 How much should one pay for the Zakatul-Fitr? In what various forms can it be paid? How much does a Sa’ usually measure?
Ans:

Zakatul-Fitr means purifying dues paid on ending the fasts of the month of Ramadan. The Prophet ﷺis recorded as having commanded that the payment of Zakatul-Fitr is binding on every Muslim, slave or free, male or female, young or old and he ordered that one Sa’ of dates or barley should be offered before the people went out to offer the Fitr prayer. A Sa’ measures 2176 grams approximately.

Zakatul-Fitr could be paid in the form of a sum of money, dates, wheat, rice, barley, cheese or the usual foods of the country. Muslims on completing their fasts, help the poor and the needy and show their thanks to Allah.

Q:10 What is the Idul-Ad’ha? What is the special feature of this Id? Why?
Ans:

IDUL-AD’HA :

Idul-Ad’ha comes about two months and nine days after the Idul-Fitr, on the tenth day of the month of Zul-Hijjah. It is the Festival of Sacrifice and marks the end of Hajj.

Its special feature is the sacrifice of an animal. It is offered in memory of the twin sacrifice offered by Prophet Ibrahim and Ismail. The purpose of this sacrifice during the days of Idul-Ad’ha, is to remind us of our duty to Allah; an all time submission to His will.

The days of Idul Ad’ha are celebrated in more or less the same way as Idul-Fitr: the exchange of gifts, greetings and prayers for each other’s long life and well-being.
Muslims begin this day too by offering Salah together in mosques.

Its special feature, however, is the animal sacrifice.

The animal which is usually a goat or a sheep is sacrificed for Allah alone; and is divided into three portions. One is kept for the family, the other is given to relatives, neighbours, friends, and the third to the poor and the needy, not necessarily Muslims. They are the days of Allah.

They are the days of joy and celebration. They are the days to thank and remember Allah while rejoicing. They are the days to help the poor and the needy.

Q:12 Write paragraphs on how Idul-Fitr and Idul-Adha are celebrated.

They, therefore, were foreigners, and they did not belong to Egypt, thought Pharaoh. The proud Pharaoh cared nothing for them. As he was the king, he owned most of the land and valuables. He had divided his people into groups.
At the top, was Pharaoh himself, his officials and nobles, while Bani Israi’l were placed on the lowest rung of society and they were deprived of almost all their human rights.

Pharaoh made Bani Israi’l into slaves to toil all day, under a blazing sun, like donkeys and beasts of burden. They had to cut out huge blocks of stones during the hottest hour of the day and the king gave them nothing but merely a day’s meal. The cruel and arrogant Pharaoh hated Bani Israi’l more and more and he called upon them to worship and prostrate themselves before him.

The proud Pharaoh said: “Does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me? Don’t you see that all these running waters flow at my feet? Can you not then see that I am your supreme lord?”

Pharaoh was really worried. He became wild with rage. He gave orders to his soldiers: “You may kill every baby boy that is born among the people of Bani Israi’l. Let only the baby girls live.”

Thus the king hoped to make sure that no baby boy was permitted to grow up into a man, who might fight against him.

Pharaoh’s orders were obeyed and hundreds of baby boys were killed like cats and dogs everyday.

Q:9 But Allah wished ‘that’ to occur which Pharaoh had always feared. What does this mean?

A baby boy was born to lead them into the light from darkness. This boy was Musa bin Imranعلیہ السلام. He was a lovely child and his parents felt they must do something to save him. They told no one of his birth, and they warned everyone in the family not to speak of their baby son to anyone.

NAVIGATION :

Because of their deep mathematical knowledge and their skill as sailors the Muslims also became expert at navigation. It was the Muslims who spread the use of astrolable for sailors, and they drew up some of the first
and the most accurate astronomical tables.

Muslim traders travelled extensively during the seventh and the ninth centruries and reached as far as China and Russia by sea as well as by land. Some of them wrote very interesting accounts of their journeys.
Their reports aroused wide-spread interest in distant lands and people.
Thus the accounts of Sulayman at-Tajir and Ahmed ibn Fadlan tell us some of the interesting things about China and Russia. But the most popular and outstanding of the ‘Travels’ are those of Ibn Battutah. He was an Arab. His full name was

MUHAMMAD IBN ABDULLAH IBN BATTUTAH He was born in 1304 in Tangier in Morocco. He travelled from Tangier and eastward he reached India, Sri Lanka, Bengal and even China. His work has been translated into English.

AI BIRUNI (D. 1050)

He wrote a geography of India and guessed correctly that the Indus river valley must once have been a sea. It was again al-Khwarizmi who devised a calendar as accurate as the one we use today.

The central gate had gold plates fixed to it. The walls were adorned with mosaics.
